The course is mainly concerned with modern applications of advanced new materials. It starts with introductory background to crystalline and non-crystalline solids, together with XRD and SEM characterizations. Organic and inorganic solids are included. Bulk crystals and thin film technology will de presented. Semi-conductivity phenomena and applications in renewable energy will be discussed. Capacitors, batteries, ionic solids, conjugated polymers and fuel cells are included. Modern applications of liquid crystals and fiber optics are included.
