The lecture introduces the students to a new theory, namely (Ligand Field Theory). Assumptions, explanation of bonding and structure, covalency, d-orbital splitting, s, p and d orbital involvement are all discussed. Molecular Orbital Energy Level Diagrams (for Octahedral, Tetrahedral and square planar complexes) are then discussed.
