This lecture presents shapes of hot rolled sections and main sections in American, European, and British standards. Differences between shapes and standards are presented also. The second part of the lecture introduces the design of TENSION members. It defines types of failure of tension failures and keywords like NET area, GROSS area. Dr. M. Samaaneh shows the path of transferring load and expected failure along this path experimentally using paper sheet and connect that to design of tension members.
